SAS Overview
SAS (Statistical Analysis Software) is used of statistical analysis. VCU faculty, staff and students may either obtain a personal copy of SAS for Teaching/Research Use or may use SAS on Unix or the App2Go Server.
SAS License Information
Virginia Commonwealth University has a site License agreement with the SAS Institute of Cary, NC. It permits current VCU students, faculty and staff to use SAS on campus and home to support teaching and research use. In addition, five (5) concurrent use licenses of SAS are available for use by VCU researchers on the App2Go Server. SAS is also available on the UNIX platform for teaching and research use.
A separate SAS contract and separate installation media is used for VCU administrative activities (Banner Data Access & Reporting).
There are restrictions associated with the use of the SAS software obtained by VCU under the Teaching and Research Use license agreement.
SAS Restrictions:
- Use SAS for VCU teaching and research purposes only.
- Upon leaving VCU, remove ALL VCU licensed SAS productions from your office, laptop and home computer.
- Do NOT resell the SAS license or software.
- Do NOT reverse assemble, reverse engineer or decompile the Software or otherwise attempt to access the source code.
- Do NOT use the SAS logo in SAS applications developed by VCU.
- Do NOT post SAS license codes (aka SID files or setinits) on personal or departmental websites.
- Do NOT export SAS outside the USA.
Note: Violation of the license policy may result in civil or criminal legal actions as well as University disciplinary action. Review the VCU Computer Network and Resource Policy for compliance details.
Obtain a Personal Copy of SAS
There are several ways to obtain a personal copy of SAS. Each version have differnt system requirements, installation media, hot fixes, installation instructions, manuals, features and tips. To view the details on how to acquire the software, select the SAS version below.
Run SAS on Unix & App2Go Server
Current VCU faculty, staff and students may use SAS on two server environments, Hubert (Unix Server) and App2Go (Windows Server).
The Hubert Server runs SAS 9.1.3 on a Solaris platform.
App2Go allows you to use a Windows, Mac or Linux computer to access SAS via a browser window on a Windows Citrix server. Although SAS runs on the App2Go Server, it appears to be running on your PC. You can open, save and print files from your PC. Applications on the App2Go server are available to support research projects and are not intended for instructional use.
