 nQuery Advisor® Overview

nQuery Advisor® is the industry standard for Sample Size and Power determination. Determination of the appropriate sample size is a crucial part of study design. If a study is too small it may produce inconclusive results. At the same time we cannot waste scarce resources on a study which is too large. nQuery Advisor® helps you find to the most efficient sample size.

In addition to assisting you in choosing the appropriate sample size for your research studies nQuery Advisor® helps you to specify the standard deviation and effect sizes which you need to make sample size and power computations.

The user-friendly interface makes data entry simple, and the inclusion of explanatory cards alongside the entry table does much to aid the new user in understanding what is needed. By studying sections of the manual and practicing on actual data, the research scientist will find much of value in the study of experimental design. The statistician will be able to perform many routine analyses and estimates quickly without the necessity of hand calculation for intermediate steps.

Current VCU faculty, staff and students may obtain a personal copy or use nQuery Advisor® on the App2Go Server.

nQuery License Information

VCU has obtained a nQuery Advisor® site license which permits use on campus only by current VCU faculty, staff and students. In addition, five (5) concurrent use licenses of nQuery Advisor® are available for on campus use by VCU reseachers on the App2Go Server.

To download nQuery Advisor®

After download, installation instructions including a license key are e-mailed to your VCU e-mail address.

Note: nQuery Advisor® must be installed under Microsoft VISTA by a login as an Adminstrator who has full permissions to access the registry.

Use nQuery on the App2Go Server

Using a Windows, Mac or Linux computer, you are able to access nQuery Advisor® via a browser window.  Five (5) concurrent use licenses of nQuery Advisor® are available for on campus use by VCU researchers on the App2Go Citrix Server.  Although nQuery Advisor® runs on the App2Go Server, it appears to be running on your PC.  You can open, save and print files from your PC.  Applications on the App2Go server are available to support research projects and are not intended for instructional use.

Current VCU faculty, staff and students may request an App2Go account to access nQuery Advisor® on the App2Go Server for research.  Documentation on how to use of the App2Go Server will provide you details such as system requirements, installation, opening files, saving files and printing. 

Renew an nQuery Advisor® License

nQuery Advisor® licenses for existing installations must be renewed annually.  Licenses expire annually on May 31st.
