Overview of NVivo

QSR International's NVivo, is available to VCU researchers on the App2go Citrix Server. NVivo is an all-purpose qualitative data analysis system, which is designed to aid researchers in handling non-numerical, unstructured data by supporting processes of indexing, searching and theorizing. It can be used to analyze text, audio and video files.

Using a Windows, Mac or Linux computer, you are able to access NVivo via a browser window. Although NVivo runs on the App2Go Server, it appears to be running on your PC. You can open, save and print files from your PC. Applications on the App2Go server are available to support research projects and are not intended for instructional use.

Only current VCU faculty, staff and students may request an App2Go account to access NVivo on the App2Go Server. Documentation on how to use of the App2Go Server will provide you details such as system requirements, installation, opening files, saving files and printing.

Note: Analysis of audio files is available in the current release of NVivo. However, after extensive consultation with the developers of NVivo, it was determined that the audio features of NVivo are not supported in this environment.
