What is Inquisite?

Inquisite is an easy-to-use automated survey software system that allows non-technical users to easily manage their own Web surveys. Inquisite eliminates the high cost of outsourcing and puts you in control of the entire survey process.  Inquisite accounts are only distributed to departments.

Inquisite makes it easy to complete the "survey cycle":

  1. Create a survey with the Inquisite Survey Builder.
  2. Publish your survey to the web.
  3. Send e-mail invitations.
  4. Analyze responses and publish your results.

VCU Departmental Inquisite Licenses

VCU has obtained a limited number of licenses for the Inquisite web survey system for Windows from Inquisite, Inc. The Inquisite accounts are only distributed to departments. Generally, only one license per department, however additional licenses can be issued upon request.

Use of Inquisite is restricted to university academic and administrative purposes. Inquisite may NOT be used for VCU Medical Center purposes.

The annual fee for using an account is currently set at $750. This fee may change in the future, depending on various factors, but it is expected to remain fairly stable. First year fees are prorated as follows:

  • Account obtained June 1 - August 31: $750
  • Account obtained September 1 - December 31: $550
  • Account obtained January 1 - March 31: $350
  • Account obtained April 1 - May 31: no charge

Each department designates an account administrator. The administrator obtains Inquisite training from VCU Technology Services and provides services to their department, such as:

  • training users
  • publishing surveys
  • managing invitations
  • managing email lists
  • generating reports
  • downloading response data (to SPSS, MS Access, or text files)
  • ensuring content follows VCU policies and guidelines

The department can install the survey “builder” software on one or more PCs, which can be used to create surveys.  A copy of each survey file must be given to the account administrator, who will publish it to the web and perform other administrative tasks.

To request a departmental account, please contact the VCU Technology Services Help Desk.

Documentation

Inquisite documentation from Inquisite, Inc., is available on the web. This documentation is also available within the Help menu of the Inquisite client software program.

Security

Response data collected by Inquisite surveys is kept in a database on a secure server that is behind the university's SecNet firewall. When a survey respondent takes a survey, a secure SSL connection is established between the respondent's web browser and the Inquisite web server, so that data transmissions are sent in an encrypted form.  A secure connection is also established when the administrtor logs into the account.

Support & Consultation

Inquisite support and training is provided by your department's Inquisite coordinator. If Inquisite assistance is needed, your department coodinator may request assistance through the VCU Technology Services Help Desk
