Symantic Anti-Virus
VCU has a site license for Symantec Anti-Virus software which is available for download at no cost to VCU students, faculty and staff for use on university and home computers. The site license requires that this software be removed from any machine owned by a person who is no longer a current member of the VCU faculty, staff or student body.
The site license for Symantec Anti-Virus software covers Windows 98, Windows Me, Windows NT 4.0 Workstation (SP6a or higher), Windows 2000 Professional, Windows XP Professional, Windows XP Home, Windows NT/2000/2003 Servers, NetWare Server Platforms, and Macintosh. Managed Client for Windows Clients
The version of the Symantec Anti-Virus Corp Edition (SAVCE) for Windows
users is a "managed client", which means that Live Update is
preconfigured to run on a regular schedule in order to keep anti-virus
signature files up-to-date, and a local server will also deliver
anti-virus signature file updates to ensure that all updates are
received.
Macintosh Clients
For Macintosh users the Norton Anti-Virus software includes a Live
Update feature for automatically downloading new anti-virus signature
files from the vendor's web site, which keeps virus protection
up-to-date as new viruses are released. It is recommended you
manually check your virus definitions once a week to make sure they are
up-to-date.
The current version is 7.00 for MAC/OS 8 - 9, which will be updated during a Live Update download from the Symantec web site. The current version for MAC/OSX is Norton Anti-Virus for Macintosh v9.00.
NetWare and Windows NT/2000/2003 Server Platforms:
Novell and Windows NT/2000/2003 Server versions are available for a 24
hour check out from Technology Services on the MCV Campus (Sanger Hall
B3-015, 828-9843 ext.0) and on the Monroe Park Campus (Cabell B-30,
