TML Distance Education Classroom

Equipped to operate both as a state-of-the-art distance education facility and as a "smart classroom," Room 2010 of Tompkins-McCaw Library offers instructors a wide variety of media presentation devices powered by a centralized remote control system.

In its capacity as a smart classroom, the facility is equipped with:

  • Ceiling-mounted video/data projectors
  • VHS format VCR
  • Pentium III PC with floppy, ZIP and DVD drives, network connections and access to World Wide Web
  • Two motorized projection screens
  • Document camera
  • Video, audio and data inputs for use with auxiliary devices (laptops, etc)
  • Electronic and standard white boards

Employed as a videoconferencing room, the room offers the devices above, plus:

  • Robotic cameras providing live video of the instructor and students
  • Camera-tracking microphone for instructor
  • Push-to-talk microphones for students
  • Wall-mounted, flat-screen plasma monitors for "feed" and "return" video

Scheduling

The TML Distance Education Classroom is scheduled through the Sanger Hall office of Media Support Services. Reservations may be made in person at Sanger Hall, Rm B1-018, by phone at 828-3400.

User Training and Instructions

All users are required to meet with MSS staff in advance of their event to learn the operation and capabilities of the room. To schedule training, please contact the Sanger office of MSS (see above).

For assistance in adapting your curriculum to best utilize the capabilities of the room, contact the Center for Teaching Excellence (CTE) at cte@vcu.edu.
