Copy a Course (#1185)
The Copy Course feature is used by those who wish to update a course for use in a future semester or to create a separate section for the same course. Creating a separate section allows you to maintain separate class rosters, but you will be required to update content in multiple course sections. Consider merging sections into one course rather than copying a course. It will minimize the complexity of your course updates. Read "Merge/Cross-list Sections" below.
The Copy Course function copies all previously loaded documents, therefore, no document reloading is required. Information related to the previous student roster will NOT be copied. The class roster will automatically update within 24 hrs (during the work week) when the course is copied to an active semester. Student names will not appear until the students register for the course.
Note: Discussion Board information will NOT copy over.
Merged/Cross-list Sections:
The Blackboard Administrator is able to merge multiple sections (cross-list courses). By merging course sections, you will only be required to update content in one course rather than multiple courses. To view instructions on merging course sections, go to How to Merge/Cross-list Multiple Courses into One Course.
To Copy a Course:
Step 1 - Login to Blackboard.
Step 2 - Go to My Faculty Tools and select Copy a Course.

Step 3 - Use the pull-down list to select the class you want to CopyFROM (Existing Course).
Step 4 - Select the new course from the CopyTo (New Course Information) pull-down list or type the course information into the alternative area.
Note: If the new course is an official VCU Course, use the pull-down list to ensure that the student information will automatically load into the class roster.

Step 5 - Click Submit to copy the course.
Note: Copying the course to an active semester will enable Blackboard to update the student roster, if the course appears on the Official VCU Course Listing (pull-down list). The Blackboard course roster is updated once a day during a regular workday; therefore, it may take up to 24 hours to update the course roster. New students will appear on the roster by 5:00 PM on a regular workday. If a special course is created in Blackboard using the alternative course posting method, students will need to be entered manually. Go to Add Students to a Course for instructions.
