Tips on Converting Video Formats (#1007)

Most video is created then saved as and AVI file. The AVI file type is the most common audio and video file type. However, an AVI file cannot be streamed from a media server. It is first necessary to convert the AVI file into the desired video format you want to stream. Converting a AVI file to a different media type is done through a separate program. To Real Player (.rm and .ra)

Helix Producer from Real Systems can convert AVI files to Real Media. The free download is able to do the conversion but has poor quality video output. To QuickTime (.mov)

To Windows Media (.asf, .wmv, and .wma)

There are many different video converter program that can convert AVI to Windows media. Microsoft's Windows Media Encoder is simple and does AVI to WMV very well. Easy Video Converter is another program that works fairly well, but you can find others at www.download.com or search on Google.
