Upload and View Your Student Organization Web Pages
Uploading your Web pages to www.studentorg.vcu.edu
To upload Web pages that you create on your Macintosh or a PC to the www.studentorg.vcu.edu Web server, use the File Transfer Protocol (FTP) program. While working on-campus you may use Fetch (Mac) or Filezilla FTP (PC) to transfer your files. While working off-campus you may use Fetch (Mac), Filezilla, or SSH (PC) to transfer your files.
Using FrontPage to Upload
The student and student organization Web servers DO NOT support FrontPage extensions; however, students may use FrontPage to create, manage, and upload their Web pages.
Using Dreamweaver to Upload
You may use Macromedia Dreamweaver to create, manage, and upload your Web pages. You must enter the FTP Host (www.studentorg.vcu.edu) and leave the Host Directory blank in the FTP section of the Remote Info section of the Edit option. This allows you to "Get Files" and "Put Files" on the sever.
Using Filezilla
Please visit the FTP Tutorial for more information on how to use the FTP Program.
Viewing your Web Site
The URL address for your Web pages are http://www.studentorg.vcu.edu/[studentorgid]/index.html where "[studentorgid]" is your login id on the system and 'index.html' is the file name of your home page. Remember, in order for browsers to process HTML documents properly, the "filename" must end in ".html" (or .htm). If no filename is included then the browser looks for a file named index.html.
Publishing your Home Page
Once you have completed your Web site and you are satisfied with its appearance, you can submit your URL to be included in the Student Organizations Web Directory. If your page is on www.studentorg.vcu.edu it will be included in the List of Sites on that server.
