S-Plus at VCU

S-Plus available under the VCU site license with Insightful Corporation:

May only be used by VCU faculty, staff, and students for teaching and research purposes
Licenses obtained after May 8,2008 expire July 31, 2009.
Are distributed for the Windows platfrom by checkout

Under this cross platform license, a limited number of copies are available:

S-Plus 8 for Windows for both university-owned PCs and student owned PCs
S-Plus 8 is also available to VCU researchers on the App2Go Citrix Server.
S-Plus 7 for Unix
To run on the cental unix server called Hubert enter: Splus
S-Plus 8 for 32 bit Linux (to request media)

To install S-Plus 8 or renew your license on your personal workstation:

For Students:

Students may install S-Plus on their home computers or laptops at no charge.
Must uninstall S-Plus upon graduation or departure from VCU.
Complete an S-Plus Student License Agreement Form in order to borrow the installation media or renew your license annually.

For faculty/staff:

Cost of S-Plus is $40/PC/year
The first year charge is payable at the time of the installation. Thereafter, payment is due annually on the University’s renewal date (in July).
Each installation (office, home or laptop) requires a license.
Payment must be made by University Budget Code. No checks, credit cards or cash will be accepted.
For University-owned PC’s, complete the S-Plus Professional License Agreement Form. Your fiscal officer must fill in the correct Budget Code to be debited and should also sign the application form.

To request S-Plus installation media for Windows or Linux:

The S-Plus installation binder is available for a 24-hour checkout.
A $5 per day late fee will be charged (after the 1st 24 hours).
Email softwarelic@vcu.edu to arrange an pickup time.
Bring your completed License Agreement Form and your VCUCard when coming to borrow the checkout binder. For faculty/staff, your fiscal officer should fill in the correct Budget Code to be debited and should also have signed the application form.

To renew S-Plus 8 licenses:

Sent via Campus Mail to: S-Plus License Renewal, Box 843008

After your license agreement form has been processed, you will receive an email with a license code to extend your S-Plus 8 license until July 31, 2009.

S-Plus 8 Supported Windows Platforms and System Requirements (S-Plus 8 is Vista compatible)

To install S-Plus for Windows:
Installation instructions are in the file named install.txt which is located in the root directory on each installation CD. To open this file in Notepad, double click on this file.

Documentation and Patches:

Documentation installs by doing a "Complete" install.
Manuals can be accessed on the Help menu.
