MathType
VCU has obtained a site license for MathType for Windows and Macintosh from Design Science, Inc. Free MathType Licenses for campus and home use are available to current VCU faculty, staff and students as a service provided by Technology Services.
What is MathType ?
MathType is the professional version of the Equation Editor in Microsoft Word or Corel Word Perfect. It allows you to create complex equations with a simple point and click. MathType works with any word processor, presentation program (such as Powerpoint), Blackboard, page layout programs, HTML-authorizing tool and other software, to create equations for research papers, class material, web pages, slide presentations, dissertations and journal articles.
MathType obtained under the VCU site license can be used:
1. On the App2Go server for researchers
VCU researchers can access MathType via the App2Go Citrix Server.
When you use MathType on the App2Go server, it appears to be running on your PC.
You can open and save files on your PC and print on your PC.
Five (5) concurrent use licenses of MathType are available for use by VCU researchers
on the App2Go Server.
2. By downloading MathType to your Windows or Macintosh workstation:
Register and download MathType 6.0 for Windows
Register and download MathType 5.1 for Macintosh
System Requirements
Windows
- MathType 6 for Windows is compatible with:
Windows 2000, Windows XP and Windows Vista.- 10 MB free hard disk space
- MathType 6 adds:
A MathType ribbon to Word 2007 and PowerPoint 2007
A MathType toolbar and menu to Word 2003, 2002 (XP) and 2000.
Macintosh
- Mac OS 9 or Mac OS X 10.1 or newer
- 20 MB free hard disk space
Restrictions
MathType software obtained under this license:
- May only be used by current VCU faculty, staff and students
- May be used for campus and home use.
- Is exclusively for academic use
- May not be used for commercial gain
- May not be modified
- May only be shared with others at VCU who register a license
- Must be uninstalled when you are no longer affiliated with VCU
Installation Instructions
When you register, an e-mail message with installation instructions and Registration # will be sent to your VCU e-mail account.

VCU faculty, staff and students who are subscribed to the MATHTYPE-L LISTSERV
(mailing list) receive notifications of Mathtype upgrades, etc.Those who registered their license on the VCU Software Download Registration webpage are automatically added to this list. In some departments technical support staff register a block of licenses. If users whose licenses are registered by their technical support staff wish to receive listserv notifications for this product they should subscribe:
