Blackboard 6.3 Help: My Blackboard

Other features of the My Blackboard web page will be added to the tutorial in the near future. Refer to the Blackboard Manual if instructions are not listed in this VCU Blackboard Tutorial.

Copy a Course

The Copy Course feature is used by those who wish to update a course for use in a future semester or to create a separate section for the same course. Creating a separate section allows you to maintain a separate class roster, but you will be required to update two course sections. Consider merging sections into one course rather than copying a course. It will minimize the complexity of your course updates. See Merge Sections or Cross-Listed Courses listed below.

This Copy Course function copies all previously loaded documents; therefore, no document reloading is required. Information related to the previous student roster will not be copied. The class roster will automatically update (within 24 hrs, Mon-Fri) when the course is copied to an active semester. Student names will NOT appear until the students register for the course.

Merge Sections or Cross-listed Courses: The Blackboard Administrator is able to merge multiple sections or cross-listed courses. By merging course sections, you will only be required to update one course rather than multiple copies of the same course. To view instructions on merging course sections, go to " How can I merge multiple sections or cross-listed courses into one course?"

To Copy a Course:

1

Login to Blackboard at http://blackboard.vcu.edu

Copy a Course
2

Go to My Faculty Tools and Copy a Course.

3

Copy From
4

Select the new course from the CopyTo (New Course Information) pull-down list or type the course information into the alternative area.

NOTE: If the new course is an official VCU Course, use the pull-down list to insure that the student information will automatically load into the class roster.

5

Click Submit to copy the course.

NOTE: Copying the course to an active semester will enable Blackboard to update the student roster, if the course appears on the Official VCU Course Listing (pull-down list). The Blackboard course roster is updated once a day; therefore, it may take up to 24 hours (Mon-Fri) to update the roster. New students will appear on the roster by 5:00pm (Mon- Fri). If a special course is created in Blackboard using the alternative course posting method, students will need to be entered manually. See Add Students to a Course for instructions.

Delete a Course

Courses deleted from Blackboard are removed from the Blackboard system and can not be recovered. If you intend to reuse the content in another course, be sure to copy or archive the course before you ask that a course be deleted. See Copy a Course or Archive a Course for instructions.
