Copy and Move Content in a Course

Instructors are able to copy or move content and place it in another area within the same course or in another course. Entire folders and Learning Units can also be copied.

Note: Folders may not be copied from other parts of a course into a Learning Unit.

To Copy or Move Content:

Open the course and go to the Control Panel.

Go to the Content Area and locate the course content in the you wish to copy or move.

Click the Copy button.

4 Use the drop-down menu to copy the item into another course. If you wish to copy or move content within the same course, go to Step 5 to define the distination.

Click Browse to open the Course Map to give you access to the course structure.

Click on the folder you wish to place the file. Click on Expand All if the folders are closed or Refresh if you just created a folder.

The file may be removed from the original destination if you specify Yes under Remove item after copy.

Click Submit and OK to complete the copy or move process.

 

 

Create an Assignment in a Course

Previously a professor would list an assignment under the Assignment button and the student would submit it through the Bb Drop Box, send if via e-mail or hand it in during class. The new Assignment feature allows the professor to post the assignment in any Content Area listed on the Control Panel (Course Document, Course Information, Assignments, etc.) This Assignments feature requires the student to submit the assignment electronically from the assignment link. When the student's assignment is submitted, it then becomes available for grading in the gradebook.

 

To Create an Assignment:

Open your Bb course and go to the Control Panel.

Go to Content Area and select the area you wish to place your Assignment.

Open the drop down arrow, select Assignment and click the Go button.

Give the Assignment a Name.

Type the number of Points you wish to give for the completion of the assignment.

Type the assignment Instructions.

If you wish to attach a file with the assignment instructions, scroll down to Content and click the Browse button to location the document you wish to attach and click Open.

If you wish to attach a file from the Content System, click Browse button to open the Content System.

Give the file link a Name and click Submit.

To attach additional files, click the Modify button associated with the assignment and attach a another file using the previous steps.

The Assignment defaults to make it available to students as long as the course is available. The availability and track number of views may be turned on or off.

Click Submit to create the assignment.

The Assignment Options may be changed by clicking the Modify button.

Note: All new entries default to the bottom of the page. Assignments may be reordered as you reorder any item or folder.

 


 

How does a Student View and Complete an Assignment?

Assignments may appear in any content area of the course. It is wise to inform the student as to how you organize your and where the assignments will appear. Students will only be able to submit the assignment once.

 

To view and submit the assignment:

Locate the assignment in the course.

Click on View/Complete Assignment to view the assignment menu options.

Review the instructions and click on any Assignment Files to view attached documents.

The student may provide a few brief comments about the assignment in the Comments area, but the best practice is to attach the completed assignment as a document. This will allow the student to keep a copy of the assignment in case there is a need to resubmit.

 

Note: If you ask the student to work with an attached file, then instruct the student to save the file using another name. The student's name or eID may be added to the original file name.

To attach a file, select Browse to locate the file and click Open.

There are two options available to the student, Save or Submit. The Save button will save the information already entered, if the student wishes to return to the assignment later. When the student is ready to submit the assignment for grading, the student must click the Submit button. The assignment may only be submitted once.

 

 

How does a Student Resubmit an Assignment?

There may be an occasion when a student must resubmit an assignment. The assignment submission attempt must be cleared from the gradebook before the student may resubmit the assignment.

 

To clear the submission attempt:

Open the course and go to the Control Panel.

Go to Assessment and click on Gradebook.

Locate the student's name and the assignment. Click on the ! to open the Modify Grade screen.

Click the View button to display the Grade Assignment screen.

Click on the Clear Attempt button to clear the assignment submission. The student may now resubmit the assignment.

Notify the student that the assignment may be resubmitted.

 


 

How to Review and Grade an Assignment

The assignment is automatically posted in the gradebook when the assignment is created. The professor must go to the gradebook to review and grade each assignment after it is submitted by the student..

 

To review and grade the assignment:

Open the course and go to the Control Panel.

Go to Assessment and click on Gradebook.

Locate the student's name and the assignment. Click on the ! to open the Modify Grade screen.

Click the View button to to view and grade the assignment..

Click on the Student's Files link to open or save the student's attached file.

Add the assignment Grade, and Comments if needed. The comments will appear on the student's Assignments page.

Graded documents may be attached from your computer or Bb Content System. The local file Browse button provides access to your computer files and Content Collection Browse button provides access to your Bb Content System files. (See Note below.)

Your personal notes may be documented under Instructor Notes. To attached files from your computer click the local file Browse button or to access files from the Content System, click the Content Collection Browse button. The student will never see this information.

Click Submit and OK to post the grade into the Gradebook. As soon as you click Submit, the student will be able to view the grade, your comments and any attached files.

 

Note: It is a good practice to rename the student's document if you return it with comments or corrections. This will eliminate the chance of copying over the student's original document.
