  VCU Remote Sensing Program

Project Director: John E. Anderson, Ph.D

Remote sensing is the use of electro-optical sensors to acquire information about objects or materials without coming in direct contact with them. VCU Department of Biology operates a small format digital multispectural camera system and two field spectrometers that measure radiance characteristics of plants, soils, water, etc. (Anderson, 1997) These digital images will be processed and shared via Internet connections with collaborators. Currently, four research grants support remote sensing and the development of a digital multispectral collection system in collaboration with the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Advanced Measurements Initiative: Virginia Department of Transportation (VD0T), Transportation Research Council (VTRC); Army Research Office, U.S. Topographic Engineering Center (TEC); and Southern States Cooperative Inc.
