| Technology Services is hosting its
fourth annual Emerging Technologies Day on Friday, April
8, 2005, in the Commonwealth Ballroom of the Student Commons
on the Academic Campus. As one component of this event, we are calling
for papers and posters showing innovative ways technology can be/is
being used at VCU to improve teaching, learning and research.
Papers and posters are solicited on such topics as:
• Innovative uses of Blackboard and/or Internet2
• Mobile computing
• Videoconferencing
• New student services
• Student and faculty research projects
• Telehealth applications
Faculty, staff and students are invited to submit proposals for
papers, posters, exhibits and presentations. This is a wonderful
opportunity to share information with instructors, researchers and
students.
Papers will be published in PDF format on this
Emerging Technologies Day Web site.
Posters will be furnished with poster panels approximately
3' X 5'. Posters will be hung on the panels with velcro dots (provided).
All handouts must be in a holder attached to the panel with velcro.
No tables will be allowed in the poster area.
Exhibits will be furnished with a 3' x 6' table
and 2-3 chairs. Exhibits may use computers and wireless connections.
A limited number of wired connections will be available, but wireless
laptop computers are encouraged. Smaller exhibits may be asked to
share table space, depending on availability. Exhibit space is limited
and exhibitors will be chosen by the review committee from the applications
submitted. Someone should be available to staff your exhibit during
the exhibit day (10 am - 4 pm)
Presentations will be approximately 10 minutes
long with an additional 5 minutes allowed for questions. Presentations
will be in the Commonwealth Ballroom A, partially separated from
the main exhibit area. The is limited presentation time, and presenters
will be chosen by the review committee based on innovative uses
of technology and interest to the entire VCU community. We will
work with you to schedule your presentation during your available
time periods.
