Create a New Button

1. Turn Edit Mode ON.

2. Hover over the plus sign located in the top left-hand corner of the course/organization menu buttons. The Add Menu Item drop-down list appears.

3. Select the type of button desired.

  • Create Content Area- Top-level course/organization area that provides your course/organization/organization structure. They are linked and created on the Course/Organization Menu only. This is where users upload documents, create assignments, deploy tests, etc.
    • Type a Name for the new Content Area.
    • Select the Available to Users check box. Content Areas can be created ahead of time, made unavailable, and then made available at the appropriate time.
    • Click Submit. A link to the new Content Area appears on the Course/Organization Menu.
  • Create Module Page- Includes the boxes found on the home page (such as the calendar, To Do list, My Announcements, etc.)
    • Type a Name for the link.
    • Select the Available to Users check box.
    • Click Submit.
  • Create Blank Page- A blank page presents information on a single page. Think of it as a blank sheet of paper.
    • Type a Name for the link.
    • Select the Available to Users check box.
    • Click Submit. The Edit Blank Page appears in the content frame and the new Blank Page link appears last on the Course/Organization Menu.
  • Create Tool Link- Includes tools such as My Grades, Announcements, Blogs, Calendar, and many more. All of the tools listed behind the Tools/Communication button on the Course/Organization Menu can be added to the Course/Organization Menu as individual buttons.
    • Type a Name the Tool link.
    • Click on the drop down arrow.
    • Select the Tool desired (ex: My Grades).
    • Select the Available to Users check box.
    • Click Submit.
  • Create Web Link- Adds a Course/Organization Menu button that will take students to an Internet website thatis outside of Blackboard. Make sure this URL is valid.
    • Type a Name for the link.
    • Type in the full website address, including the http://, into the URL text box. (For example http://vcu.edu).
    • Select the Available to Users check box.
    • Click Submit.
  • Create Course Link- Adds a direct link to a specific location within the course/organization.
    • Click Browse and select a location within the course/organization.
    • Type a Name for the link.
    • Select the Available to Users check box.
    • Click Submit.
  • Create Subheader - Used to provide some type of separation between buttons; for organizational purposes.
  • Create Divider - Used to provide some type of separation between buttons; for organizational purposes.
